Quotes From Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"Firepower has been used for quite a few enterprise clients. Most of our clients are Fortune 500 and Firepower is used to improve their end to end firewall functionality.""The integration of network and workload micro-segmentation helps a lot to provide unified segmentation policies across east-west and north-south traffic. One concrete example is with Cisco ACI for the data center. Not only are we doing what is called a service graph on the ACI to make sure that we can filter traffic east-west between two endpoints in the same network, but when we go north-south or east-west, we can then leverage what we have on the network with SGTs on Cisco ISE. Once you build your matrix, it is very easy to filter in and out on east-west or north-south traffic.""The most important feature is the intensive way you can troubleshoot Cisco Firepower Firewalls. You can go to the bit level to see why traffic is not handled in the correct way, and the majority of the time it's a networking issue and not a firewall issue. You can solve any problem without Cisco TAC help, because you can go very deeply under the hood to find out how traffic is flowing and whether it is not flowing as expected. That is something I have never seen with other brands.""The Adversity Malware Protection (AMP) feature is the most valuable. It is also very easy to use. Every technical user can operate this solution without any difficulty. The dashboard of Cisco Firepower has every tool that a security operator needs. You can find every resource that you need to operate through this dashboard.""The customer service/technical support is very good with this solution.""The most valuable features of this solution are the integrations and IPS throughput.""The most valuable features of this solution are advanced malware protection, IPS, and IDS.""They wanted to leverage something which is equivalent that can give them the next gen features like application awareness and intrusion protection. So that is a major reason they were looking forward to this. The original ASA firewall did not have these features. This was the major reason the customer moved on to Cisco Firepower Threat Defense (FTD). Now they can go ahead and leverage those functionalities."

"The most valuable features are unified threat management which provides security intelligence and the VPN for both site-to-site and remote access.""SonicWall TZ is a stable product.""I like the firewall product, the security server, and the content filter.""Ease of management and the VPN integration.""I've found the technical support to be helpful.""The most valuable features are security and technical support.""The most valuable features have been content filtering, and the interface is easy to navigate and to use.""The most valuable feature is the user-friendly navigation."

"All features are useful. We are using premium features such as bandwidth sharing, failover, web filters, SSL controls, antivirus, and VPN. We use these features to the fullest. These features are available in the paid firewall license, not the free one.""The most valuable features are IPS, MAPI, NAT, and VPN.""Its detection, antivirus, and filtering features are the most valuable. The facility to connect by using the VPN connection is also a very valuable feature. It is very strong, secure, and reliable. We have implemented the Untangle solution in all hardware. It is also a user-friendly solution. It is easy to learn and easy to configure.""Easy to set up and easy to integrate.""They have a command center that makes it easy to log into and see all of your appliances nationwide."

Cons
"The initial setup was a bit complex. It wasn't a major challenge, but due to our requirements and network, it was not very straightforward but still easy enough.""In a future release, it would be ideal if they could offer an open interface to other security products so that we could easily connect to our own open industry standard.""The performance should be improved.""The product line does not address the SMB market as it is supposed to do. Cisco already has an on-premises sandbox solution.""The visibility for VPN is one big part. The policy administration could be improved in terms of customizations and flexibility for changing it to our needs.""When you make any changes, irrespective of whether they are big or small, Firepower takes too much time. It is very time-consuming. Even for small changes, you have to wait for 60 seconds or maybe more, which is not good. Similarly, when you have many IPS rules and policies, it slows down, and there is an impact on its performance.""We cannot have virtual domains, which we can create with FortiGate. This is something they should add in the future. Additionally, there is a connection limit and the FMC could improve.""Cisco makes horrible UIs, so the interface is something that should be improved."

More Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall Cons »

"I would like the solution to build in more redundancy. I""User interface could be improved.""The VPN that is available in the new version is a bit bulky and slower in speed.""From a support perspective, if we're talking tech support I think Silver Partners, Gold Partners, Platinum, whatever level, should have a different number to call. End users can call tech support over at SonicWall if they've paid for support as part of their AGSS or whatever services they bought. The end-user can call, or we can call, however, I don't want to be calling the same line that an end user's calling. I don't want the same response time. I need a different level of expertise.""FortiGate has a client DNS in the firewall, but SonicWall doesn't have that. To create or configure a site-to-site VPN tunnel, we have to give a DNS name. Currently, we have to get the DNS name from a third party and then include it in SonicWall, whereas FortiGate has its own client DNS, so it provides a DNS name, and it does not require a third party. There should be a graphical option to view the network utilization and bandwidth usage.""Although the pricing is good, it could always be lower. If we get to pay less, we're happier.""The price could be better for us in Bolivia.""I would like to see more integration with other platforms."

More SonicWall TZ Cons »

"They don't have any feature that allows you to drop the session.""The common center facility that Untangle provides should be available on-premises. There are great corporations here in Mexico that like the Untangle solution, but they don't like the fact that the monitoring and access to the appliance are in the cloud. They request for the common center facility to be available and installed on-premises.""We seek the availability of the hardware in our region. The hardware-based firewall from Untangle is currently not available in our region. It should have threat protection on a real-time basis. This feature, available in Check Point and Sandstorm kind of scenario, is currently missing in Untangle NG Firewall.""Web-filtering policies could be improved.""The pricing should be reduced because it is expensive."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"This product is expensive.""It definitely competes with the other vendors in the market.""The price for Firepower is more expensive than FortiGate. The licensing is very complex. We usually ask for help from Solutel because of its complexity. I have a Cisco account where I can download the VPN client, then connect. Instead, I create an issue with Solutel, then Solutel solves the case.""The solution was chosen because of its price compared to other similar solutions.""Cisco, as we all know, is expensive, but for the money you are paying, you know that you are also getting top-notch documentation as well as support if needed.""Its pricing is good and competitive. There is a maintenance cost. It includes SecureX that makes it cost-effective as compared to the other solutions where you have to pay for XDR and SOAR capabilities.""For me, personally, as an individual, Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall is expensive.""This product requires licenses for advanced features including Snort, IPS, and malware detection."

More Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall Pricing and Cost Advice »

"It has a yearly subscription.""Its price is very high, which makes it difficult to convince the clients to buy this solution.""The price is fair.""Customers are required to pay for a yearly subscription.""The price is fair for the solution for the quality you receive.""Its pricing is okay as compared to other solutions.""It is a bit expensive. We have to purchase the license and the reporting part separately, which makes it a bit pricey. This is the main reason why we have thought of moving to another firewall. It would be good if they combine both of these.""The price is high compared to some other solutions."

"The pricing model is better than with SonicWall.""It is not expensive. It is cheaper than Fortinet.""It is not expensive. The best part is that it is based on the pay-per-use kind of scenario. An increase or decrease in the number of people doesn't make any difference. We are really happy about using this particular scenario."
