We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"The user experience [is] well thought out and the workflows are logical. The dashboards are intuitive and highly customizable.""The most valuable feature is definitely the ability that Devo has to ingest data. From the previous SIEM that I came from and helped my company administer, it really was the type of system where data was parsed on ingest. This meant that if you didn't build the parser efficiently or correctly, sometimes that would bring the system to its knees. You'd have a backlog of processing the logs as it was ingesting them.""It's very, very versatile.""The thing that Devo does better than other solutions is to give me the ability to write queries that look at multiple data sources and run fast. Most SIEMs don't do that. And I can do that by creating entity-based queries. Let's say I have a table which has Okta, a table which has G Suite, a table which has endpoint telemetry, and I have a table which has DNS telemetry. I can write a query that says, 'Join all these things together on IP, and where the IP matches in all these tables, return to me that subset of data, within these time windows.' I can break it down that way.""Even if it's a relatively technical tool or platform, it's very intuitive and graphical. It's very appealing in terms of the user interface. The UI has a graphically interface with the raw data in a table. The table can be as big as you want it, depending on your use case. You can easily get a report combining your data, along with calculations and graphical dashboards. You don't need a lot of training, because the UI is relatively very intuitive.""The user interface is really modern. As an end-user, there are a lot of possibilities to tailor the platform to your needs, and that can be done without needing much support from Devo. It's really flexible and modular. The UI is very clean.""Devo provides a multi-tenant, cloud-native architecture. This is critical for managed service provider environments or multinational organizations who may have subsidiaries globally. It gives organizations a way to consolidate their data in a single accessible location, yet keep the data separate. This allows for global views and/or isolated views restricted by access controls by company or business unit.""Being able to build and modify dashboards on the fly with Activeboards streamlines my analyst time because my analysts aren't doing it across spreadsheets or five different tools to try to build a timeline out themselves. They can just ingest it all, build a timeline out across all the logging, and all the different information sources in one dashboard. So, it's a huge time saver. It also has the accuracy of being able to look at all those data sources in one view. The log analysis, which would take 40 hours, we can probably get through it in about five to eight hours using Devo."

"The level of robustness on offer is very good.""The additional vendors we've brought on board, particularly the elastic, have been quite beneficial.""There are quite a lot of things that we find useful. Splunk agents are useful and good. Its UI is quite impressive.""The most valuable aspect of the solution is the dashboard. It's very intuitive.""Its integration is most valuable. Its UI is also pretty much easy.""It allows us to digest the information, the data, the different data streams, so we can make decisions based upon information that we receive, and it is pretty robust.""Its compatibility with other SIEMS is very useful.""The most valuable features are how stable and easy to use Splunk is."

"The setup and installation are very easy.""The virtualization solution supports data center virtualization, network and security.""The system's management and its alerts are the most valuable aspects of the solution.""The interface of the solution is good.""Our current costs are too high, and this tool will help us to better optimize our infrastructure.""It is very scalable and can handle a large workload."

Cons
"Technical support could be better.""I would like to have the ability to create more complex dashboards.""Their documentation could be better. They are growing quickly and need to have someone focused on tech writing to ensure that all the different updates, how to use them, and all the new features and functionality are properly documented.""Some third-parties don't have specific API connectors built, so we had to work with Devo to get the logs and parse the data using custom parsers, rather than an out-of-the-box solution.""There is room for improvement in the ability to parse different log types. I would go as far as to say the product is deficient in its ability to parse multiple, different log types, including logs from major vendors that are supported by competitors. Additionally, the time that it takes to turn around a supported parser for customers and common log source types, which are generally accepted standards in the industry, is not acceptable. This has impacted customer onboarding and customer relationships for us on multiple fronts.""One major area for improvement for Devo... is to provide more capabilities around pre-built monitoring. They're working on integrations with different types of systems, but that integration needs to go beyond just onboarding to the platform. It needs to include applications, out-of-the-box, that immediately help people to start monitoring their systems. Such applications would include dashboards and alerts, and then people could customize them for their own needs so that they aren't starting from a blank slate.""There's room for improvement within the GUI. There is also some room for improvement within the native parsers they support. But I can say that about pretty much any solution in this space.""From our experience, the Devo agent needs some work. They built it on top of OS Query's open-source framework. It seems like it wasn't tuned properly to handle a large volume of Windows event logs. In our experience, there would definitely be some room for improvement. A lot of SIEMs on the market have their own agent infrastructure. I think Devo's working towards that, but I think that it needs some improvement as far as keeping up with high-volume environments."

More Devo Cons »

"We find that the maintenance process could be a lot better.""There are a lot of competitive products that are doing better than what Splunk is doing on the analytics side.""An area of improvement would be the licensing of the solution. They need a free license, which would allow faster lead times.""The solution has a high learning curve for users. It's a little complicated when you're trying to figure out all the features and what they do.""Being a SIEM solution with a centralized dashboard, we would like to have more options to customize it.""Technical support needs to be more responsive.""Splunk could be improved by reducing the cost. The cost is one of the biggest challenges for us in keeping to our production requirements.""I feel the solution to be too slow."

More Splunk Cons »

"The dashboard needs to be improved because this is what I need to monitor my infrastructure.""It's great for VMware, but it would be good if they had third-party logins.""The pricing of the solution could be improved.""It needs better integration with third-party analytics tools.""The solution should be more user-friendly. The user interface and dashboard could be simplified.""Log retention should have more options for user control."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"We have an OEM agreement with Devo. It is very similar to the standard licensing agreement because we are charged in the same way as any other customer, e.g., we use the backroom.""[Devo was] in the ballpark with at least a couple of the other front-runners that we were looking at. Devo is a good value and, given the quality of the product, I would expect to pay more.""Our licensing fees are billed annually and per terabyte.""I like the pricing very much. They keep it simple. It is a single price based on data ingested, and they do it on an average. If you get a spike of data that flows in, they will not stick it to you or charge you for that. They are very fair about that.""Devo is definitely cheaper than Splunk. There's no doubt about that. The value from Devo is good. It's definitely more valuable to me than QRadar or LogRhythm or any of the old, traditional SIEMs.""It's a per gigabyte cost for ingestion of data. For every gigabyte that you ingest, it's whatever you negotiated your price for. Compared to other contracts that we've had for cloud providers, it's significantly less.""Be cautious of metadata inclusion for log types in pricing, as there are some "gotchas" with that.""Devo was very cost-competitive... Devo did come with that 400 days of hot data, and that was not the case with other products."

More Devo Pricing and Cost Advice »

"The price of Splunk is reasonable.""This product could use better pricing in general.""It's a yearly subscription.""My customers have found the price of the solution to be high.""Price-wise, if you compare QRadar to Splunk for SIEM functionality then they are in the same range but when you integrate SOAR with these solutions, Splunk takes the lead and is more competitive.""The price is comparable.""This solution is costly. Splunk is obviously a great product, but you should only choose this product if you need all the features provided. Otherwise, if you don't need all the features to meet your requirements, there are probably other products that will be more cost-effective. It's cost versus the functionality requirement.""Its pricing model can be improved."
