Each SmartWall device has an out-of-band management interface
Pros and Cons
  • "SmartWall devices occupy only one-fourth of the width of a rack unit, making them very easy to install."
  • "It is an agnostic and transparent inline platform, which means that the maximum visibility of the symmetric and asymmetric traffic is available, even allowing bidirectional detection of the attack."
  • "It could use support in Spanish."

What is our primary use case?

We use Corero Network in Peru for service providers to mitigate attacks, specifically with Corero Network SmartWall, Corero SecureWatch, and Corero Management Systems.

It is a very efficient and robust appliance.

How has it helped my organization?

For Corero SmartWall, the failure of a link is not the failure of all the links. The saturation of one link does not affect the scanning of other links. This is because one SmartWall appliance does not affect its processing compared to other links, because it is simply separated.

The advantage lies precisely in that Corero adopts each link with a SmartWall independently in scanning, i.e., each link has its own SmartWall Threat Defense Appliance. The installation and maintenance work carried out on a single link does not impact the others links.

Finally, each SmartWall device has an out-of-band management interface. Thanks to this, the centralized management component CMS can manage the entire solution.

What is most valuable?

SmartWall is the platform that has the following advantages in front of the real and sensitive needs of the carrier and data center:

  • It is a Mutli-core Platform: SmartWall are specific purpose devices, which are manufactured with a solid state architecture using a 36 Multi-core processor.
  • It is an agnostic and transparent inline platform, which means that the maximum visibility of the symmetric and asymmetric traffic is available, even allowing bidirectional detection of the attack.
  • It is a platform of maximum performance and scalability at 60 Gps.
  • It is a latency platform with less than 60 μseconds. It is known that the inline mode loading and processing depends 100% of the Anti-DDoS System. For this reason, Corero Network grants a latency of inspection with less than 60 μseconds, only for this inline solution
  • It is an elevated MTBF platform. The average time between failures is greater than 100,000 Hours (11 years) in conditions of 25 deg. C environment.
  • It is a complete platform against DDoS attack protection: Next Generation platform against DDoS attacks and cyber defense exclusive service providers and hosting, which has both volumetric protection techniques and DNS applications, NTP, and HTTP (for example).

What needs improvement?

It could use support in Spanish.

For how long have I used the solution?

Less than one year.

How was the initial setup?

SmartWall devices occupy only one-fourth of the width of a rack unit, making them very easy to install.
