Good authentication and great single sign-on feature but needs a better upgrade procedure

Pros and Cons

  • "The single sign-on feature is excellent."
  • "I would love to see the upgrade procedure handled more effectively. I would prefer to have OVS installation possibilities, although the upgrade procedures should include the OS as well. You should be able to use the whole application as an appliance."

What is our primary use case?

We work with farmer federations. We primarily use the solution for authentication and single sign-on capabilities.

What is most valuable?

The single sign-on feature is excellent. I'm going to configure it as a module for the advanced authentication from NetIQ to the Access Management so that we can use multi-factor authentication.

What needs improvement?

Occasionally, it's very difficult to get the solution running. There's no administration behavior of the application at a platform level.

I would love to see the upgrade procedure handled more effectively. I would prefer to have OVS installation possibilities, although the upgrade procedures should include the OS as well. You should be able to use the whole application as an appliance.

For how long have I used the solution?

We've been using the solution for two years now. It hasn't been too long at this point.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability is fine. We don't deal with any bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze. It's reliable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We are about to change our infrastructure architecture. Therefore, in our case, it's not yet scalable.

We have about 300 people that use the solution in our organization.

How are customer service and technical support?

Technical support is okay. Occasionally, it takes them a while to get back to you. However, once you are in contact, the support is great. They answer your questions and solve your problems. For the most part, we're satisfied with the level of service provided.

How was the initial setup?

The implementation is different every time. However, that said, if you know what to do, it's pretty straightforward and you can figure it out pretty easily.

What about the implementation team?

Everything was done in-house. We didn't need the assistance of an integrator or consultant.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I'm new to this product. Therefore, I don't have any knowledge of the pricing or licensing. It's not an aspect of the solution I handle.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

The was our first choice. We did not evaluate other options.

What other advice do I have?

We're a partner. We have a business relationship with the product.

I would recommend the solution.

I would rate the solution seven out of ten overall.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

How are customer service and technical support?

Micro Focus' technical support is very good.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup and implementation are very easy. It takes between two weeks and 20 days.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Before going with NetIQ Access Manager, the other option we evaluated was Microsoft Identity Manager. We checked the open source IDM Solution.

The main differences between the Micro Focus solution and Microsoft are cost, simplicity, implementation, and operations. The Microsoft is very expensive, whereas NetIQ Access Manager is much lower in price in comparison.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend NetIQ Access Manager. It is a very, very good alternative to Microsoft. Micro Focus is very big and offers good technical services.

The solution is very good. It is fast and simple to operate and has very good production time to market.

On a scale of one to ten, I would give NetIQ Access Manager an eight. Learning this product takes time and effort so the training process is very time consuming.
