A stable and stable solution which is easy to set up and allows for real-time hardware changes
Pros and Cons
  • "A great feature involves real-time hardware changes."
  • "USB dongle-based licenses do not allow us to directly locate the USB ports on Nutanix."

What is our primary use case?

The solution allows us to make use of high IOPS requirements.

How has it helped my organization?

We used to go with a traditional architecture, storage and server. Now, with Nutanix, we have 30,000 IOPS, up from 1,000.

What is most valuable?

A great feature involves real-time hardware changes. There is no need to shut down any VM during the hardware changes.

What needs improvement?

The solution does not lend support when we connect with a few dongle licenses. There is a need to make use of certain third-party USB switches through which we can have USB access. USB dongle-based licenses do not allow us to directly locate the USB ports on Nutanix. Other than this, I have no complaints.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using Nutanix Acropolis AOS for the last four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is certainly stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable.

How are customer service and support?

I do not recall contacting Nutanix's support within the past four years. Nutanix sends us daily alerts and messages. A year-and-a-half ago I encountered a RAM failure, but there was no need for me to log a case with Nutanix, as the call was automatically logged and an engineer was sent to deal with the problem.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We previously made use of Scale Computing and HPE SimpliVity.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was quick. Previously, the operations involved three days of downtime but, with the solution, the initial migration from traditional architecture to Nutanix lasted three hours, instead of three days. It was so much quicker.

What about the implementation team?

We handled the implementation on our own.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing is quite good in comparison with HPE SimpliVity, Nutanix Scale, and even traditional architecture. We found Nutanix's pricing to be the best. We did not incur license fees as we did with HPE Simplivity's VMware licenses, so this kept the costs down.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Nutanix Acropolis AOS as a nine out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Good lifecycle management functionality and technical support, but many features need improvement
Pros and Cons
  • "Nutanix does a superb job with technical support."
  • "It's lacking in some features but overcompensating in others."

What is our primary use case?

We have had customers who wanted new hardware and new software with a certain price point in mind, and didn't want to pay the VMware licensing. We switched them to Nutanix Acropolis.

What is most valuable?

Our clients like several features including the micro-segmentation flow, the one-page management through Prism, and the LCM (Life Cycle Management) that Prism offers.

What needs improvement?

There are several features that need improvement. Some of the areas are:

  • The Nutanix flow is only for micro-segmentation functionality.
  • It doesn't integrate with their cloud solution.
  • It's only for on-premises, even though they have micro-segmentation, it doesn't extend it through the cloud.
  • It (Flow) doesn't work with the XI frame.
  • Life Cycle Management is very simplistic for the HPE DX.
  • Some of the applications are not supported yet.

We have to look at the ecosystem that Nutanix is trying to create. It's lacking in some features but overcompensating in others. They are trying to be holistic, but they have a lot to catch up on when it comes to VMware. For example, they only support Citrix, and if you run Nutanix Acropolis you can't run VMware Horizon. There are limitations and the Kubernetes solution is limited.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been dealing with Nutanix Acropolis for quite a while. I have many certifications with Nutanix.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

This solution is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability is fine, as it is advertised, but I can't attest to any performance indicators because I haven't stress-tested it.

How are customer service and technical support?

Nutanix does a superb job with technical support. Technicians who work your case answer their phones.

What other advice do I have?

It's a good alternative, but it doesn't have all of the features. It's not on par with VMware but it is a potential alternative. It's similar to comparing Apple to Oranges.

If you are invested in the infrastructure and that is what you have to consider, but it's not easy. Overall, it's good software.

I would rate this solution a seven out of ten.

Scalable. easy to install, and simple to use
Pros and Cons
  • "I have found the solution to be stable."
  • "It would be ideal if it was more secure."

What is our primary use case?

We primarily use the solution for our hyper-converged infrastructure.

What is most valuable?

The solution is easy to use.

The product is quite scalable.

I have found the solution to be stable.

The product is very easy to install.

What needs improvement?

I haven't used the solution for that long and therefore don't really have any deep knowledge about it.

It would be ideal if it was more secure.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've worked with the solution for six months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability of the product is excellent. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze. It's reliable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability of the product is very good. If a company wants to expand it, it can do so.

We only have two teams that use the solution in general.

How are customer service and support?

I've never contacted technical support. I cannot speak to how helpful or responsive they are, having never worked with them directly.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I did not previously use a different hyper-converged solution before Nutanix.

How was the initial setup?

In terms of the implementation process, the process is pretty simple and straightforward. It's not overly complex or difficult. A company shouldn't have any issues with it.

I didn't have too much exposure to the setup, however, my understanding was that the deployment didn't take long, and it only takes less than half an hour for a single node.

For us, it required two managers and eight engineers in one team to handle the deployment.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I can't speak to the pricing aspect of the solution. I was not exposed to that part of the product.

What other advice do I have?

We are an end-user of the product.

I'm not sure which version of the solution we're using currently.

I'd rate the solution at a nine out of ten.

It is great. Some of my colleagues have been permanently glued to Nutanix. I would recommend the solution to people who are interested in networking-related products.

Stable, easy to deploy, and quick to implement
Pros and Cons
  • "Technical support is okay."
  • "In Thailand, there really isn't a cloud version of Nutanx available to us."

What is our primary use case?

We mostly provide the solution to our clients as a virtual server.

What is most valuable?

Many clients use the solution in order to move the data center in-house or to a data center in the entity itself. It helps them reduce their footprint.

The solution is stable.

It's scalable. It's software-defined storage.

The initial setup is very easy and the implementation happens quickly.

Technical support is okay.

What needs improvement?

In Thailand, there really isn't a cloud version of Nutanx available to us. I'd like to see the cloud come to the country, and I'd like to try using it.

For how long have I used the solution?

The solution entered Thailand around six years ago, which is when we adopted it.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is very stable. There are no bugs or glitches and it doesn't crash or freeze. It's reliable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is quite scalable. If a company needs to expand it, it can do so.

At the time I have about ten users on the solution.

How are customer service and technical support?

Technical support has been okay. We don't have any complaints, as the solution is working quite well overall.

How was the initial setup?

The initial installation is straightforward. That said, for the first time, there may be some instruction needed, and some prep work so that you understand what's going on. However, for a new installation, it's quite easy and not overly complex.

The deployment is quick. It doesn't take more than two hours. That includes the hardware installation, not just setup and configuration.

We just need one person (an engineer) to perform maintenance tasks.

What about the implementation team?

We're integrators. We're able to help our clients implement the solution.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Typically, clients pay a yearly license fee.

What other advice do I have?

We are an integrator.

I'd rate the solution at a ten out of ten. We've been very happy with its capabilities overall.

I'd recommend the solution to other users and organizations.

Regularly updated and feature rich solution
Pros and Cons
  • "The feature that I have found most valuable is its software Move, which we use to migrate virtual info from another platform to the Nutanix platform."
  • "The new features are not free. You need to pay for each feature."

What is our primary use case?

We have used Nutanix Acropolis for deploying a private cloud. We are using the latest version of Nutanix Acropolis AOS.

What is most valuable?

The feature that I have found most valuable is its software Move, which we use to migrate virtual info from another platform to the Nutanix platform.

Then you have the Prism Central Core, the user management consoles, for managing most of the VMs. And there are a few options which I bought, including for the reporting.

What needs improvement?

In terms of what could be improved, they keep updating the product and releasing new features. They are quite up to date with the product. But the fact is that the new features are not free. You need to pay for each feature.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Since it is a high convert solution, we don't need any downtime because all the VMs are being moved to another node. So no downtime is required.

It is very stable and reliable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Nutanix Acropolis is very easy to scale.

It requires about two people.

How are customer service and support?

We have the technical support. If you pay for maintenance, you have a subscription with maintenance and you get support from them.

We were satisfied with the support. We have been able to resolve any technical issue.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We are still using Palo Alto NG firewall, which we have been using for the last 10 years.

How was the initial setup?

Installing Nutanix Acropolis was quite easy. It took one day.

There was no downtime.

What about the implementation team?

We did not implement with the vendor, but we have a local integrator.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing has been very expensive. Previously, the prices were okay, but now the price has increased since you have to pay additionally for all the features that they are making.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, I would recommend Nutanix Acropolis to other users. On a scale of one to ten, I would give it a nine.

High performance, knowledgeable support, and well integrated
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution is well integrated with other vendors."
  • "The process of migrating from old hardware to new could improve."

What is our primary use case?

The Cloud version of Nutanix Acropolis AOS is not available in Estonia. We used it for a simple bookkeeping system.

How has it helped my organization?

Nutanix Acropolis AOS has improved my organization because it has a fast delivery speed.

What is most valuable?

The solution is well integrated with other vendors.

What needs improvement?

The process of migrating from old hardware to new could improve.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Nutanix Acropolis AOS for approximately six years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable. On the customer's side, it was perfect, it was running very smooth without any issues.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is being used in a large company and there are approximately 1,000 users using this solution.

How are customer service and support?

I have had some interactions with the technical support from India remotely, and they were quite good and understood what they are doing. It is online support and it was good.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We have used other hyper-converged systems previously but there were some technical issues and the vendor did not take care of the solution well.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was not complex. We built it for a five-year period and we will need to replace it with something similar when it is ten years old. It takes approximately one day to implement the solution and then you can use it.

What about the implementation team?

We have one person from the seller side and a second person from the customer side for the deployment and maintenance of the solution. It's covered by Nutanix support too.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The price of the solution is expensive. However, the price to performance is good. The cost for development and installation is very low.

What other advice do I have?

It is very good to have an on-premise cloud system, it works well.

I rate Nutanix Acropolis AOS a ten out of ten.

The maintenance software is straightforward but there are performance concerns
Pros and Cons
  • "The maintenance software is straightforward because you do not need to do any configuration."
  • "To have internal stability, we needed to network the solution ourselves. Performance depends on the application. Performance could be the lack of IOPS, memory and CPU and configuration issues."

What is our primary use case?

We are using the hyperconverged Cloud software and I manage Nutanix. I was responsible for the planning, management and the architecture. It was then given to the structural team.

We updated the internet software so when we migrated the workload we could compare from previous examples.

What needs improvement?

To have internal stability, we needed to network the solution ourselves. Performance depends on the application. Performance could be the lack of IOPS, memory and CPU and configuration issues.

We are not going to increase our usage of Nutanix Solutions. We are migrating to the Cloud because of the cost.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using it for about one month.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Stability depends on the type of application you are running. If you are running complex applications you should run them one at a time.

How are customer service and support?

We have a Nutanix vendor that provides maintenance. We escalate to support if it is beyond the control of our in-house support team.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Our company already had a license for Nutanix so we wanted to us Nutanix Acropolis Solutions before any licensing costs.

How was the initial setup?

It is not straightforward to install, you need to follow the installation steps. The installation took about one to two months to complete the entire process as it took workloads from our existing developer platform.

We have about 25 people managing the application deployment.

The maintenance software is straightforward because you do not need to do any configuration.

What about the implementation team?

The installation was carried out by the vendor.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We did not require licenses because we already used Nutanix, so we only need to buy the software.

What other advice do I have?

I recommend certain applications but not this solution. There are certain limitations due to the lack of storage. If you need high performance, heavy applications you need to consider hardware and storage.

I would rate this solution a 6 out of 10.

Stable, supports multi-cloud integration, quick to deploy, and the support is responsive
Pros and Cons
  • "It supports multi-cloud integration that includes AWS, Google, and Azure."
  • "In the future, I would like to see integration with external storage using the fiber channel"

What is our primary use case?

We are a solution provider and my role is in pre-sales. Nutanix Acropolis AOS is one of the products that I have experience with, and we propose to customers. It is part of the hyper-converged infrastructure.

Use cases include VDI, critical applications, and containerization.

What is most valuable?

Nutanix has many features.

It supports multi-cloud integration that includes AWS, Google, and Azure.

What needs improvement?

In the future, I would like to see integration with external storage using the fiber channel. As it is now, Nutanix can only integrate with external storage using the SCSI protocol.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been selling Nutanix Acropolis AOS for almost four years, since 2016.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

This is a stable product.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

In Indonesia, Nutanix is used by smaller companies.

How are customer service and technical support?

Technical support from Nutanix is quite good.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We have experience with similar products from different vendors. This one is similar to the Cisco HyperFlex, but with different hardware. The Nutanix product is cheaper, more popular in Indonesia, and is used by smaller organizations. The customer support for Nutanix is better in terms of responsiveness and problem-solving.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward and it takes about 45 minutes to deploy.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Nutanix is cheaper than Cisco HyperFlex, although it depends on the configuration because Nutanix can also be expensive.

What other advice do I have?

In summary, this product is very mature, stable, and easy to use. It is a platform that I can recommend, although it is based on the requirements and needs of the customer.

Nutanix is a popular solution in Indonesia because it can only be used by SMB customers. Ultimately, after I look at the requirements, I decide what technology will best suit the customer.

I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.
