A reliable and cost-effective wireless solution
Pros and Cons
  • "I like the price, quality, and consistency of manufacturing."
  • "Tech support is mostly remote and could be better."

What is our primary use case?

We mostly use Ubiquiti Wireless for small business wireless solutions.

What is most valuable?

I like the price, quality, and consistency of manufacturing.

What needs improvement?

Tech support is mostly remote and could be better.

When you need to get into certain different levels of configuration, you'll need to understand the network a little better. It can get a little complicated with their higher-end gear.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Ubiquiti for about five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Ubiquiti Wireless is stable. I'm unaware of any issues at this point.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Ubiquiti Wireless is very easy to scale.

How are customer service and technical support?

Tech support is alright. They do get back to you within a certain timeframe, but their tech support is not via phones. It's mostly remote. I prefer phone support, but it depends on where they're based. Whether or not there's a language barrier, whether they're fully up to speed with the actual product itself.

Numerous vendors decided to shift their support to a third-party company, within the country or out of the country. But they don't train them properly, and then you run into problems.

On a scale from one to ten, I would give Ubiquiti technical support an eight.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We used a number of different applications, specifically Cisco, in the prior years. We switched because of the cost and quality.

How was the initial setup?

It depends. You can have a standard access point, which is very simple to install. It requires minimal configuration, depending on the typology of the customer. Or you could get into some of their higher-end gear, which could take two to three days to configure correctly.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Ubiquiti Wireless is affordable.

What other advice do I have?

I would advise potential users of Ubiquiti Wireless to first purchase a couple of pieces and try them. They'll be happy.

On a scale from one to ten, I would give Ubiquiti Wireless a nine.

Easy to set up, stable, and no complaints about their technical support
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature is the ease of setup."
  • "The control system can be improved by making it easier."

What is our primary use case?

We are a solution provider and Ubiquiti is one of the wireless products that we implement for our customers. We also implement wired products, such as switches and gateways.

We primarily used this product for building industrial networks in production and manufacturing companies, especially warehouses. This includes offices, as well.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is the ease of setup.

What needs improvement?

The control system can be improved by making it easier. You should be able to install it on Linux, by default. It should be delivered with this option, rather than having to rely on something by a third-party.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with this product for close to ten years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

This is a stable solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Ubiquity Wireless is scalable.

There are only 22 people in my organization that use this product but within our installation base, there are thousands of users.

How are customer service and technical support?

We have no objections and nothing to complain about with their technical support. Everything is fine.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We commonly use a couple of different products including those by Cisco and DrayTek. The choice of model depends on the size of the organization.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is very easy. The length of time required depends on how large the installation is. Some deployments are as little as one day, whereas others can take a month to complete.

What about the implementation team?

I was the architect of this solution and I used other companies to complete the installation and deployment. Our customers maintain this product themselves, as they have their own IT departments.

What other advice do I have?

We may increase our installation base for Ubiquity Wireless. However, I want to have an extended portfolio with all of the other products also available.

Overall, this is a product that I recommend.

I would rate this solution a ten out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Reliable, secure, and easy to set up
Pros and Cons
  • "Setting it up wasn't so complicated. It is reliable. Security-wise, we didn't have much trouble, but that could be due to our environment. We haven't had so many attacks, at least up till now."
  • "The range and maybe the quality of the signal can be improved. I had a feeling that the range wasn't long enough. Unfortunately, beyond a certain range, the signal was too weak. If I'm not mistaken, it must have been something like 100 or more than 100 meters, but I'm not sure. So, one improvement I wish for this equipment is to have a longer range, but that could mainly be due to the model we're using."

What is most valuable?

Setting it up wasn't so complicated. It is reliable. Security-wise, we didn't have much trouble, but that could be due to our environment. We haven't had so many attacks, at least up till now.

What needs improvement?

The range and maybe the quality of the signal can be improved. I had a feeling that the range wasn't long enough. Unfortunately, beyond a certain range, the signal was too weak. If I'm not mistaken, it must have been something like 100 or more than 100 meters, but I'm not sure. So, one improvement I wish for this equipment is to have a longer range, but that could mainly be due to the model we're using.

In Ubiquiti NanoStation, we have some problems with the reset button. The way the reset button is placed can be very uncomfortable. We lost some of our access points due to the fact that we eventually damaged the reset button. I would prefer a simpler reset button. There could be a kind of toggle button, but that's a matter of engineering.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for five to six years. We are working with Ubiquiti NanoStation, but they are relatively old now, so we need to renew our equipment.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is reliable.

How was the initial setup?

It wasn't complicated to set it up.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We don't buy directly. We have our finance department that buys things. My speculation on the price is that because we buy from private companies and because the product is imported, people tend to give us at higher prices. This is due to the fact that it is government procurement. So, sometimes, they are not paid directly, and they have to go through the whole administrative process before they are paid. So, they tend to compensate by increasing the price, but I won't be able to say what is the exact price.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate Ubiquiti Wireless an eight out of 10.

Stable, easy to install, and easy to use
Pros and Cons
  • "We have found the product to be scalable."
  • "I would prefer if the solution offered more integration capabilities."

What is our primary use case?

We deployed it alongside Linksys. The way I'm using it is the way I have used Linksys.

We can use it for WLAN deployments and outdoor wireless connectivity. We can use it for wireless hotspots - the long range type.

What is most valuable?

The management they have the UniFi Controller allows you to manage everything including access from the entrance location from the server.

The solution is stable.

We have found the product to be scalable.

Its server is easy to use.

The product is easy to install.

What needs improvement?

How easy it is to install depends on the knowledge base of the person doing it. It can get a bit technical.

I would prefer if the solution offered more integration capabilities.

For how long have I used the solution?

We've used the solution for more than four years at this point. It's been a while.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution has been stable. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze. It's reliable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability is very good. If a company needs to expand it, it can do so.

How are customer service and technical support?

I've never contacted technical support. I wouldn't be able to comment on how helpful or responsive they are.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We use the solution alongside Linksys. We later migrated to UniFi in one of our offices.

How was the initial setup?

The product is easy to install, however, it's technical. You need to have a technical person involved, and if you do it will be an easy installation.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

You buy the solution outright. However, I cannot speak to the exact pricing.

What other advice do I have?

I'd rate the solution at a ten out of ten. I've found the solution to be very good overall.

I would recommend the solution to other users and companies.

Good range and relatively easy to install, but stability can be problematic at times
Pros and Cons
  • "The range is usually pretty good, which is the most important thing to use because more or less, all wireless access points are the same."
  • "Better security is important because we need to have some degree of control over who is connected and how we can restrict the level of connectivity."

What is our primary use case?

We have offices scattered around the building and some of them may be used for phoning in to access conference calls. Also, when someone comes in with a laptop, they can be wirelessly connected to our network. This is easier than using a wired connection.

What is most valuable?

The range is usually pretty good, which is the most important thing to use because more or less, all wireless access points are the same.

What needs improvement?

The stability can be problematic but in general, it is okay.

Better security is important because we need to have some degree of control over who is connected and how we can restrict the level of connectivity. We have been catching people who are abusing their access.

Extending the ranger further would be even better for us.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using Ubiquiti Wireless for between five and ten years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is not always stable, unfortunately.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

In my office, we have approximately 100 people using wireless. Not all of them are using the service at the same time.

How are customer service and technical support?

We have not been in contact with technical support. Rather, we rely on ourselves.

How was the initial setup?

It takes between a few minutes and an hour to install an access point.

What about the implementation team?

We have a technical team of trained people, in-house, for deployment and maintenance. We are a public institution, so we don't always have the best technicians due to salary issues. But, if we were to consider the technical aspect then I'd say that we need to strengthen our skills.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate this solution a seven out of ten.

Easy to deploy and use, and the interference suppression technology is good
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable features are ease of deployment, ease of use, and the interface."
  • "I would like a better explanation or better documentation on how to use the onboard spectrum analyzer."

What is our primary use case?

We use Ubiquiti and part of our network infrastructure.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable features are ease of deployment, ease of use, and the interface.

The interference suppression technology that they use is very good.

What needs improvement?

I would like a better explanation or better documentation on how to use the onboard spectrum analyzer.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using Ubiquiti Wireless for more than eight years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

These are our primary wireless products and they are stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

In terms of scalability, these wireless products are good. We have quite a few deployed services, and I would say more than 500 end-users.

How are customer service and technical support?

This is a simple product and we haven't had the need or cause to seek support.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We use different models from Ubiquiti's suite of wireless products and we also use products by MikroTik. Ubiquiti was the first wireless solution that we used.

How was the initial setup?

The implementation is straightforward but it primarily depends on the length of the microwave links that you want to deploy. If it's a long link, it's a bit more complex and takes more time. Overall, however, it is very straightforward in the implementation.

What about the implementation team?

We deployed ourselves and we have a team of seven people who handle the maintenance of the infrastructure.

What other advice do I have?

This is a good product and one that I recommend highly. They just recently upgraded the platform and I am really happy with it.

I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.

Easy to install and maintain, good for point-to-point linking
Pros and Cons
  • "Ubiquiti is easier to install than Mikrotik."
  • "I would like local support from the parent company."

What is our primary use case?

We use Ubiquiti for point-to-point linking. We don't use it for Wi-Fi, we use it for point links and backward links.

We are resellers of Ubiquiti and we install it for our clients.

What needs improvement?

When you compare with Mikrotik, Mikrotik is more stable than Ubiquiti because they have their own protocols. They have two protocols, proprietary protocols, and CDMA protocols. Mikrotik only uses CDMA protocols.

I would like local support from the parent company.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Ubiquiti Wireless for years and we are using the latest version.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It's a stable solution but Mikrotik offers more stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It's a scalable product. The scalable range is from five kilometers to forty kilometers.

Depending on the model, if we are providing Mbps, we are using a higher-end model of Ubiquiti and Mikrotik for users.

How are customer service and technical support?

There is no technical support by parent companies. In India, there is only the import product. There is no channel or distributor of Ubiquiti or Mikrotik.

They should have local support available.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We use wireless products such as Cambium and Mikrotik.

How was the initial setup?

Ubiquiti is easier to install than Mikrotik.

You can install Ubiquiti in 30 minutes, and Mikrotik will take two hours.

Ubiquiti doesn't present any issues for our engineers to maintain but Mikrotik is a bit more complicated.

What other advice do I have?

We have plans to continue selling this solution.

I would recommend Ubiquiti, but my preference would be Mikrotik and that is the one that I recommend.

I would rate Ubiquiti an eight out of ten.

Easy to configure, simple to use, and reliable
Pros and Cons
  • "I have found the most valuable features to be how user-friendly it is and how simple it is to do the configurations."
  • "This solution should be more robust when it comes to connectivity and improve wireless technology."

What is our primary use case?

We use the solution for individuals that need access to the office network. This solution allows them to be connected to their mobile, desktop, laptops, and tablets, or any other kind of internal information which is being sent to the cloud.

What is most valuable?

I have found the most valuable features to be how user-friendly it is and how simple it is to do the configurations.

What needs improvement?

This solution should be more robust when it comes to connectivity and improve wireless technology.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for one year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I have found the solution to be stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable. We have 100 people using the solution in my organization.

How are customer service and technical support?

The technical support is good.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have been using Aruba solutions in the past and they have some advantages to this one. Aruba is more prudent and robust overall. However, in Aruba, you have to configure it a lot with many details.

What about the implementation team?

I did the deployment myself.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The price has been fair for what I have been using it for. There is no license for this solution.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend this solution to others. However, if you have the extra budget I would select Aruba instead.

I rate Ubiquiti Wireless an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
