Beneficial pricing model, user friendly interface, and many free features
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution is a user-friendly interface."
  • "The solution could improve by having a version to be compatible with the Linux system. They have improved the storage depository using the Linux proxy and Linux storage, but it can completely run on the Linux environment it would be much better."

What is our primary use case?

We use Veeam Backup Replication for the data center, desktop recovery, daily backups, and for storage offline.

What is most valuable?

The solution is a user-friendly interface.

What needs improvement?

The solution could improve by having a version to be compatible with the Linux system. They have improved the storage depository using the Linux proxy and Linux storage, but it can completely run on the Linux environment it would be much better.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Veeam Backup & Replication since version six which is approximately 10 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Veeam Backup Replication is highly reliable. One engineer can cover the entire backup solution for the whole organization.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I have found Veeam Backup Replication to be scalable.

We have between 500 - 1,000 users using this solution.

How are customer service and support?

We have not needed to contact technical support.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We have previously used a Dell. However, Dell was difficult to restore backups and Veeam Backup Replication was a better fit for our needs.

We would like to have the Veeam Backup Replication from the VMware or Hyper-V direct to the tape library.

How was the initial setup?

The installation is straightforward, it does not take long to do approximately 45 minutes.

What about the implementation team?

We did the implementation in-house.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Veeam Backup Replication has a lot of free features. We have a mixture of the paid versions as well as the community version. They are really helpful to us.

We have approximately 200 instances of Veeam Backup Replication with paid licenses and we use the community edition for the small offices.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Veeam Backup Replication a ten out of ten.

Has great restore capabilities and good technical support, but should include a cloud solution and be better priced
Pros and Cons
  • "The restore capabilities are the most valuable features."
  • "Veeam Backup & Replication should include a cloud solution."

What is our primary use case?

We are using the latest update at the moment.

We use the solution to do backups and replication between sites, in addition to restores. We employ it solely for its basic functions.

What is most valuable?

The restore capabilities are the most valuable features.

What needs improvement?

Veeam Backup & Replication should include a cloud solution.

The cost should also be adressed. This would bring up my rating from a seven to a ten out of ten.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using Veeam Backup & Replication for eight to 10 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable and reliable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is easy to scale.

How are customer service and support?

We have yet to make need of technical support, although I feel it to be good.

How was the initial setup?

I believe the initial setup to have been straightforward, although I cannot say this with certainty, as I was not involved in it.

What about the implementation team?

While I don't know the exact parameters of the maintenance, I do know that all of our support needs in this respect are covered.

Maintenance is handled by a third party. We do not have a separate team for handling this.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

While I do not know how much the product cost, as I was not involved in this sphere, I do know that this could be better.

What other advice do I have?

There are probably just three to five of us using the solution, solely in the IT department.

I would recommend the solution to others for its ease-of-use.

I rate Veeam Backup & Replication as a seven out of ten.

Flexible on-premises and cloud solution but it could use more automation

What is our primary use case?

We implemented Veeam Backup & Replication on-prem and also on the cloud - we have both infrastructures. We use it internally to backup our internal servers and we have a cloud infrastructure where we use it to backup our customers' virtual machines for disaster solutions. We use it for disaster replication.

What is most valuable?

In terms of most valuable features, we are mostly using the Cloud Connect feature. It is flexible because you can use it on-prem and on cloud.

What needs improvement?

In terms of what can be improved, I would say they could add automations for disaster migrations and for reverse replications. Overall, they need more automation.

I have been using Veeam Backup & Replication for six years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Veeam Backup & Replication is a stable product.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Veeam Backup & Replication is scalable.

I don't know our user count, but we have about 8,000 virtual machines.

We recently added this product to the environment so we will continue to use it.

How are customer service and technical support?

The Veeam technical support is not very good. We can solve problems one by one because there are some sales teams and technical teams in Turkey. We can contact them and solve the problems with them. But it must be faster and they must have more technical knowledge.

How was the initial setup?

Veeam is very easy to install. We can install it and begin use in one hour.

What about the implementation team?

We implemented it ourselves with our three person backup team made up of three admins.

What other advice do I have?

I would mostly recommend this product because it's easy to use and it is easy to install. On a scale of one to ten, I would give Veeam Backup & Replication a seven.

In one scenario, we started with 2,000 users and scaled up to 24,000
Pros and Cons
  • "Veeam is highly scalable. In one scenario, we started with 2,000 users and scaled up to 24,000."
  • "All our customers would like a cheaper license and more flexible deployment."

What is our primary use case?

The use cases vary because we work for several clients and deploy different solutions for each. Some of our customers have upwards of 5,000 users. But generally speaking, we use Veeam for copying databases and storage.

We use Veeam, Veritas, or Commvault for simple security and second-level storage. We might use Oracle and different kinds of databases for replication and database storage with built-in replication.

What needs improvement?

All our customers would like a cheaper license and more flexible deployment

For how long have I used the solution?

We've been using Veeam for four or five years.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Veeam is highly scalable. In one scenario, we started with 2,000 users and scaled up to 24,000.

How are customer service and support?

I have a team of consultants who provide support, and we are Veeam-certified too, but we sometimes need help with certain customers and deployments. It's very complex, and we need more time than we expect, but it's working.

How was the initial setup?

The optimized installation takes two and a half hours, and then the total deployment takes more than a month and a half.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Customers would rather have a standard license than a subscription because they prefer an OPEX solution over a CAPEX. They prefer to buy the solution with the solution and support for five or 10 years.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Veeam nine out of 10. Veeam is one of the best solutions. We are using it with customers that have 13 seats and 1,500 servers with varying technologies, including Windows and Linux databases, different interfaces, Citrix solutions, etc. We've been recommending it to our customers for the last two years.

Good price to performance ratio, stable, and simple to use
Pros and Cons
  • "What I like most about this solution are the simplicity and the price-performance ratio."
  • "It's a great product, but only if you have everything virtualized."

What is our primary use case?

We are resellers of Veeam with an official partnership and a contract for reselling the product.

What is most valuable?

What I like most about this solution are the simplicity and the price-performance ratio.

What needs improvement?

It's a great product, but only if you have everything virtualized. If you still have non-virtualized environments, then it's not treatable for customers who have some products we can not virtualize. For example, another service, or if you have Oracle or other databases, then it's not treatable for those environments.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using Veeam Backup Replication from the point that Veeam was available.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It's a stable solution. We have not had any complaints from our clients.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It's scalable with no issues.

How are customer service and technical support?

If we have any issues, our technician teams contact the manufacture if they need help.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup and deployment are handled by our technician. I have never done it myself, but from my understanding, it's easy.

We have a team in-house for maintenance.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The price is quite fair.

People always want something cheaper but then it doesn't work as well.

What other advice do I have?

Most of the time, we recommend Veeam because it's good enough. But in some environments, we don't see any reason for it and we recommend other solutions.

Know your environment before choosing Veeam to ensure that it is suitable.

I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

Works well for failover and disaster recovery, has good replication, and is relatively cheap
Pros and Cons
  • "Replication is most valuable."
  • "The cloud part of it can be improved. There should be an option for Veeam in your own cloud, as compared to the Veeam cloud offering that's currently there. The rest of it is easy."

What is our primary use case?

It is for backup and replication.

How has it helped my organization?

We use it for failover and disaster recovery. There have been times when our primary systems have failed, and we've been able to run virtually until our primary systems are available again. From a business continuity experience, it has worked fairly well.

What is most valuable?

Replication is most valuable.

What needs improvement?

The cloud part of it can be improved. There should be an option for Veeam in your own cloud, as compared to the Veeam cloud offering that's currently there. The rest of it is easy.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for eight years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I am not trying to scale it up.

How are customer service and support?

I didn't have any issues with technical support.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We use Zerto for the main part, and Veeam for a little part. We use them for different things. I prefer Zerto because I get a better RTU and RPO. It may be not as easy to set up, but once it is working, the RPO is in a region of 10 seconds. As compared to Veeam, its replication is currently two or three times.

How was the initial setup?

It is of medium complexity.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It is relatively cheap.

What other advice do I have?

I would advise others to use it. It is a good system.

I would rate it an eight out of 10.

Easy to set up, supports file and image-level restore, and offers on-the-fly migration
Pros and Cons
  • "The initial setup was very easy."
  • "If a single file is corrupt then the restoration of the entire backup will fail."

What is our primary use case?

We use Veeam to back up our virtual machines, software, and data.

We also use it to replicate data that is on the cloud, outside of the company.

What is most valuable?

It is very easy to restore files and images.

It supports migration on the fly.

What needs improvement?

If a single file is corrupt then the restoration of the entire backup will fail. This type of dependency is a problem.

I would like to see some customized backup functions that allow the end-users to make copies of files.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with Veeam Backup & Replication for six years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Veeam is a stable solution and we haven't had any problems with it.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We have not needed to scale yet, but if required, I think that it is scalable.

We have one group who is using it. Our end-users do not run backups themselves.

How are customer service and technical support?

This product is supported well.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was very easy.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We are happy with the pricing and we pay for licensing on a subscription basis.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We evaluated Commvault as a backup solution but settled on Veeam.

What other advice do I have?

For users who are interested in folder backup, I recommend Veeam.

I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.

Easy to set up, reliable, and has responsive technical support
Pros and Cons
  • "The initial setup was not overly complex."
  • "The price can be a bit expensive."

What is our primary use case?

We work with Veeam for structure for the backups.

What is most valuable?

The product responds above our needs. We are very satisfied with it.

The initial setup was not overly complex.

We've found the solution to be quite stable.

Technical support is helpful and responsive.

We're looking into the feature for the backups into the cloud and so far we are happy.

What needs improvement?

For the moment we do not necessarily need an improvement in the solution. The solution responds to our needs.

The price can be a bit expensive.

For how long have I used the solution?

We've used the solution for 15 years or so. It's been a long time.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We've seen an approximate rate of 95% stability. It's quite reliable. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze.

How are customer service and support?

From what I have experienced, technical support is good. When we open a case with Veeam, they respond quickly. We are very satisfied with the level of support we get.

How was the initial setup?

The initial implementation was easy. It was not overly complex or difficult.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing is high. It's not the cheapest on the market. We'd prefer it if it was lower and more affordable.

What other advice do I have?

I'm a customer and an end-user.

I'd rate the solution at a nine out of ten overall. We're quite happy with its capabilities. Of course, it could always cost a bit less.
