Easy to install with good virtualization and the capability to scale
Pros and Cons
  • "For virtualization it's perfect."
  • "The pricing could be better."

What is most valuable?

For virtualization it's perfect.

The solution is very simple to install. The support and maintenance are also very easy.

The solution can scale.

For the most part, the stability is okay.

What needs improvement?

The solution is pretty much the same as a solution such as Comet, however, the only difference is that this is a bit weaker and not so strong at covering the applications and the physical servers side.

This solution is very young and they don't have a lot of references.

For physical servers and some applications like SAP and databases, they're less good.

It's not quite as secure as Comet.

The pricing could be better.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for more than five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability is okay. It's not as good as Comet. Veeam is stable, however, it's not quite optimized correctly.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable, however, Comet is better in this regard. That said, if a company would like to expand, they can do so.

We have about 2,000 users on the solution. We have about 15 customers using the product.

How are customer service and technical support?

Technical support is fine. They are helpful and responsive. We're satisfied with the level of service they provide.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I've also used Comet, which I would describe as better almost across the board, except for the virtualization.

How was the initial setup?

The installation is pretty easy. It's not too complex.

It's 20% faster to install than Comet. It doesn't take too long to deploy.

Once everything is set up, it's very easy to maintain everything.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The solution keeps getting more and more expensive. They should work on the pricing.

Every year, they seem to raise the price by 10-15%. They used to be cheap. Now they are costly.

What other advice do I have?

We have the solution deployed both on-premises and on the cloud.

I'd rate the solution at an eight out of ten. We're quite satisfied with the solution overall.

I'd recommend this solution to others.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

Absolutely stable, doesn't involve a lot of management, and does what we need it to do in the background
Pros and Cons
  • "Its simplicity and the fact that it just works are most valuable. We kind of set it up and generally forget about it. It does what we need it to do in the background, and it doesn't involve a lot of management."
  • "It is always nice to get products cheaper."

What is our primary use case?

We use it internally for our own systems, and we have slightly less need on our clients' side, just because they rarely need that kind of system. We can achieve it with other tools.

What is most valuable?

Its simplicity and the fact that it just works are most valuable. We kind of set it up and generally forget about it. It does what we need it to do in the background, and it doesn't involve a lot of management.

In terms of functionality, it's pretty good, There is a lot of variety in what it can do and how it can back up. We probably use only 10% of what it is kind of capable of, so we're not really pushing the boundaries of it and having any problem.

What needs improvement?

It is always nice to get products cheaper.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been dealing with this solution for maybe five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is absolutely stable. We tend to set it and forget it. It has been a very reliable solution.

How are customer service and support?

We don't really have much experience with their support. Over the five years, we've maybe put in one or two tickets, and that's about it.

How was the initial setup?

It is very simple. It is pretty self-explanatory as long as you understand the virtual environments that you're working with. Veeam itself is pretty easy.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It is always nice to get products cheaper.

Technically, it saves you a lot of money. If you wanted to buy the same functionality out of vSphere, you would spend thousands to essentially get the same functionality.

What other advice do I have?

I would highly recommend it, but it also depends on whether or not it all fits in with the clients and the pricing model. It is like any backup solution. You have to consider what you're trying to get out of it before you go ahead and configure it, but for backup and replication across hosts, it works really well.

I would rate it a nine out of 10 for what it does. I don't know anything that does it as well.

Multiple functions, simple to use and install, and well-documented
Pros and Cons
  • "I'm pleased with the ability to search for documents; it's very useful."
  • "Scalability, as well as licensing costs, need to be improved."

What is our primary use case?

This solution is used to backup, restore, and replicate our data.

What is most valuable?

It's an easy-to-use tool with multiple functions.

The replication is easy.

It provides good findability of the missing documents.

I'm pleased with the ability to search for documents; it's very useful.

There is a lot of documentation available online. The Veeam forum is a great place to start because it contains a great deal of information.

What needs improvement?

Scalability, as well as licensing costs, need to be improved.

I like the idea of a web-based version or a web console. That is the top priority for us.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using Veeam Backup & Replication for more than five years.

We are working with the latest version.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Some features are missing, such as web-based versions.

I only have the software on the machine, and I must log in to use the software. There are some features that are missing in terms of stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Scalability needs to be improved.

In our organization, I am the only user from the IT department.

How are customer service and support?

I contacted technical support in the middle of last year. There was an issue with our Veeam account that was resolved in a matter of days.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward.

It is just a small installer. That was all there was to it, we just needed to fill in some options.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The licensing cost needs improvement.

We have a yearly perpetual license.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I was comparing Veeam to Dell DPS, and I was looking for information on products other than Veeam or Dell but were somewhere in between.

What other advice do I have?

My advice is to determine whether the version they have is the correct one that they require, as Veeam has three different versions. As a result, you must determine which version is appropriate for your organization. That is a mistake that we have made in the past.

I would rate Veeam Backup & Replication an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Good integration and instant recovery feature is useful
Pros and Cons
  • "One of the most valuable features is the integration. Another good feature is the instant recovery."
  • "I think that Veeam could improve some performance issues when the backup itself is restored. I'm also using HPE StoreOnce, which has deduplication, and when I'm trying to test or run backups, it takes a lot of time. I think they could improve the testing for backup copies."

What is our primary use case?

I primarily use Veeam Backup for VMware backups—I have one physical agent—and replications to SAN. I use it to copy backups to the cloud, as well as for tape backups. I also use it for restoring Azure backups and replicas to ensure that backup is successful.

This solution is deployed on-premises, and we are currently using the latest update.

What is most valuable?

One of the most valuable features is the integration. Another good feature is the instant recovery.

What needs improvement?

I think that Veeam could improve some performance issues when the backup itself is restored. I'm also using HPE StoreOnce, which has deduplication, and when I'm trying to test or run backups, it takes a lot of time. I think they could improve the testing for backup copies.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Veeam Backup for more than five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

This solution is very stable and reliable. I didn't face any issues with Veeam Backup Replication itself—the whole issue was related to issues with the operating system.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

This solution is easy to scale.

How are customer service and support?

I have contacted Veeam technical support a few times and was satisfied with the support. I contacted them regarding issues related to the backup copy to cloud and they helped to fix the problem.

How was the initial setup?

The installation was straightforward and we handled it locally.

We have one admin using this application and two IT members working as alternative administrators for any issues if the main admin is not available. So we have a team of three handling maintenance.

What about the implementation team?

We implemented this solution through an in-house team.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing is on the higher side, so I think they have to think about the price. It's a stable product and there was no requirement to keep in touch with the support team, so the renewal license was too expensive.

What other advice do I have?

I rate this solution a ten out of ten, and I would definitely recommend this solution to others.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Strong backup integrity, high backup and replication performance, and reliable
Pros and Cons
  • "I have found one of the most valuable features to be the integrity of the backups."
  • "think backing up from physical servers and ransomware security needs some improvements."

What is our primary use case?

The solution can be used for backing up data such as virtual machines, data servers, and applications.

How has it helped my organization?

We was concern about ransomware attack and with Veeam now we are protected. Thnaks Veeam

What is most valuable?

I have found one of the most valuable features to be the integrity of the backups. It does a great job at taking backups of physical servers and doing replications. The integration with their storage is done well.

What needs improvement?

I think backing up from physical servers and ransomware security needs some improvements. However, they have improved in the newer release by encrypting the backup server.

In upcoming releases, I do not want the UI to change, this is important for individuals using the solution. If there are many changes then they have to keep learning the UI over and over again making it difficult.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for approximately five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

In my experience, I have found the solution to be stable. You are able to scale out to repositories well. You can add all servers together as a bundle and use them as a scale-out repository.

How are customer service and technical support?

The technical support is great. They have comprehensive FAQ information that can be searched for whatever your needs are.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have used Veritas in the past and it does a better job at backing up servers.

How was the initial setup?

The installation is simple, it takes less than 15 minutes.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

This solution requires a license and the organizations I was involved in were using an enterprise license.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend using this solution to others.

Reasonably-priced and offers good support for virtualization, but it was not built for the cloud
Pros and Cons
  • "We have evaluated other solutions but Veeam is the best for virtualization."
  • "There is a lot of room for improvement, but the primary issue we have is that it's not built for the cloud."

What is our primary use case?

We are a managed service provider and we run a cloud backup company. We provide cloud backup services for customers and our primary platform is Veeam.

What is most valuable?

The primary reason that we use Veeam is the market share.

What needs improvement?

There is a lot of room for improvement, but the primary issue we have is that it's not built for the cloud. It wasn't designed for it but we're making it work.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using Veeam Backup & Replication for 10 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

There are bugs and other things that go wrong in almost any environment, although it's not that there's anything wrong with the product. That's just life in IT.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Scalability-wise, it is okay, although it could be better.

We use it internally, although it revolves around our clients.

How are customer service and technical support?

Technical support is good and I would rate them a seven out of ten. The rating would improve if they were better at following up.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is complex. Our is a very large project to run in the cloud.

What about the implementation team?

We have our own Veeam certified engineers who deploy and maintain it.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on Veeam each year, although it is not expensive for what we get.

The licensing is something that could be improved.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We have evaluated other solutions but Veeam is the best for virtualization.

What other advice do I have?

My advice for anybody who is considering Veeam is that it's a good product. We do not have an environment that is user-centric, where I can make specific suggestions otherwise.

We are currently using version 10 and plan to move to version 11 within the next two months.

I would rate this solution a seven out of ten.

Efficient backup, supports all vendors, and helpful documentation
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable features of Veeam Backup Replication are efficient backup and replication. Additionally, Veeam Backup Replication supports all products and vendors."
  • "The solution could improve by having more user-friendly dashboards."

What is our primary use case?

We use Veeam Backup Replication for data backup and replication.

We will upgrade to version 11 soon.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable features of Veeam Backup Replication are efficient backup and replication. Additionally, Veeam Backup Replication supports all products and vendors.

What needs improvement?

The solution could improve by having more user-friendly dashboards.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Veeam Backup Replication for approximately six years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Veeam Backup Replication is highly stable.

I had a customer that has been in operation for two years without any critical issues.

We do not have plans to increase usage at this time. We use the basic version at this time.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability of the solution is good.

We have five people in my organization that use this solution and support 10 customers.

How are customer service and support?

I am in Turkey and the support is very important for the customer but it should be improved.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We have used Commvault previously but the customers cannot use Commvault for backups and replication, it is not included on the Commvault backup software.

Veeam Backup Replication allows both features.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup of Veeam Backup Replication was straightforward. Step by step, we did not have any problems.

What about the implementation team?

We have five people for maintenance of Veeam Backup Replication.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The price of Veeam Backup Replication has been increasing their price and my customers are asking why. They have CPU-based licenses and a Universal License, the prices should be reduced.

What other advice do I have?

I would advise others that want to implement this solution to check the Veeam website for documentation and follow the information all step by step on how to install it. Everything is available in the documentation about implementation. If someone follows the documentation they will not have a problem with the implementation.

I rate Veeam Backup & Replication a nine out of ten.

Reliable, easy to use, good support, and requires minimal maintenance
Pros and Cons
  • "It's very easy to work with and it's very reliable."
  • "I would like to see the Veeam cloud solution and Microsoft Office 365 included all in one platform."

What is our primary use case?

The primary use case of this solution is to back up all of our applications and all of our data.

What is most valuable?

It's very easy to work with and it's very reliable.

We haven't had any issues so far, and the backup and restore works very well.

What needs improvement?

I would like to see the Veeam cloud solution and Microsoft Office 365 included all in one platform.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with Veeam Backup & Replication for five years.

We are working with the latest version.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We use this solution daily. It's very stable. We have not had any issues.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It's a scalable solution. We started out with a few issues, and after we purchased Office 365 it was easy to store and proceed with other backups.

This is a backup of the applications and data. We don't have any users who access it.

How are customer service and technical support?

We contacted technical support one time only. They were able to solve the issue.

They were good.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Previously, we used a few different solutions. Before Veeam, we were using a solution from HP, and Symantec.

We decided to go with Veeam because we had a few issues that were not able to be resolved in time.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was simple. When you compare it with other solutions it was simple.

This solution does not require a lot of maintenance. This component of the solution is very easy. We only need one person to maintain it.

What about the implementation team?

The implementation was completed within the company.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

This is not an expensive solution. It's on the cheaper side.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend this product to others who are interested in using it.

I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.
