Great provisioning setup of VMs; integration with services automation could be improved

Pros and Cons

  • "The provisioning setup of VMs is good."
  • "Lacks a simplified integration with services automation."

What is our primary use case?

We deploy this solution for our clients, from small to large enterprise. We are resellers and I'm the company's principal engineer.

What is most valuable?

A valuable feature is the provisioning setup of VMs. It's the most common feature used by our clients.

What needs improvement?

I'd like to see a simplified integration with services automation. At the moment it requires a lot of network from partners and solution providers to do this - there are a lot of third party components that require integration. If they could improve this it would mean less integration for some key products and services.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using this solution for five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

This is a stable solution.

How are customer service and technical support?

We have no complaints about the technical support.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Licensing costs aren't too expensive, although you pay extra for additional features.

What other advice do I have?

It's important to understand your requirements before choosing a solution.

I would rate this solution a seven out of 10.

What is most valuable?

It is user-friendly, easy to deploy, and easy to maintain.

The roadmap for the product itself covers all of the features that we are looking for.

It has what we need.

What needs improvement?

There are many add-on modules for it.

It would be great if VMware could have a consolidated way of delivering this as software rather than pieces and several add-ons so that you could enjoy the product in its entirety.

There are many add-ons that you have to plugin to enjoy the feature or experience the full power of it.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using VMware vSphere for more than five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

VMware vSphere is a stable product.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is very scalable.

How are customer service and technical support?

We pay for an annual subscription. We recommend users pay for VMware support because you might need it. We cannot use it without the support license. Here in Egypt, we would like everything free. So if you give us the license for free, we would be thrilled.

Can run for 50 years on its own without crashing

Pros and Cons

  • "Tech support is very knowledgeable."
  • "Sometimes it's impossible to prevent problems from happening. With vSphere, you never know where the problem is going to come from, but you will always know that there is a problem. This is the problem."

What is most valuable?

The feature I find the most valuable is that vSphere doesn't break unless integrated with Veeam or vCenter.

What needs improvement?

When you run vSphere on its own, that thing can run for 50 years without crashing. The problem starts when you start integrating it to clusters, migrating the virtual machines, doing the DRS, and applying the resource pool. The problem is with the memory.

Sometimes it's impossible to prevent problems from happening. With vSphere, you never know where the problem is going to come from, but you will always know that there is a problem. This is the problem.

I would make integration much better and improve speed. I would also make the errors more visible to the user.

I have been using this solution for many years.
