What are the pros and cons of each?
We found the reduced power consumption with Nutanix Acropolis AOS a very attractive feature. We also like the interface that allows you to talk directly to your VM from the present software. We found the erasure coding, deduplication, and on-demand scaling extremely valuable. The feature our team liked the best was that Nutanix Acropolis AOS is core-centralized on the UI - you don’t have multiple interfaces that you have to handle. It’s better integrated for the complete management of the infrastructure.
We would like to see more operating systems included, though. If you require high-end or lots of compute, Nutanix Acropolis AOS may not be a good fit for those large databases. We would like to see better visibility with the main OEM backup integrators. The solution’s integration with other platforms could also be improved.
We found VMware’s vSAN was easy to set up, configure, and manage compared to other solutions we considered. It is best suited for small- to medium-sized organizations. It is easy to create load balancing and clusters and create and delete virtual servers using this solution. The deduplication and compression are excellent.
On the DevOps side, it would be more helpful if VMware vSAN could provide more automation. Troubleshooting can be problematic; some of our clients need to monitor the solution on a daily basis, which is not so efficient. In the future, we would like to see micro-segmentation or security features added.
We researched both Nutanix Acropolis AOS and VMware vSan and we felt VMware vSAN was a better fit for us. We felt that they were reliable, offered better scaling capabilities, and had very good documentation. We also feel VMware vSAN has better integration with other platforms than Nutanix Acropolis AOS does.
@reviewer1650858 Which integrations do you use with vSAN?
Clearly Nutanix. As to why, Nutanix has a better vision, superior support and the product is more mature. See http://www.joshodgers.com/tag/...
Josh Odgers has a series of comparison articles. Short story: vSAN has been released and since that they are beginning to wipe out their shortcomings.
That means for AOS: more performance, better stability and resiliency.
Back at Nutanix's support, did I mention its awesomeness? I am a Nutanix customer.
If you want to have highly quick & fast snapshots and their restore then Nutanix Acropolis is the solution. Otherwise, VMware vSAN.
@Mohab Samy can you please share why?
